I want to reach financial independence at a young age. I’m 33 about to turn 34 and by my 45th birthday I want to buy myself the freedom to quit my day job, own my time and pursue my dreams.
May 2015 has been a great month because I could realize the power of niche sites with my own eyes and with my own sites. When I decided a couple of months ago to change my “strategy” and to focus on niche sites and long tail keywords, I was not really thinking it would work. But as you’ll be able to see, my may online income proved me wrong!
Let’s see what my dividend and online income was in may :
On the dividend income side, may has been a pretty boring month. Not a lot of companies pay a dividend in may but I expect june to be a cool month.
A couple of months ago, I bought shares of “O”, one of the greatest REIT out there, I also bought shares of Cominar (cuf-un.to) a Canadian REIT and Liquor Store (liq.to) which is what its name tells us… a liquor store chain in western Canada.
What do these companies have in common? Well, not that much except that they all pay monthly dividends! I love monthly dividends. They keep my interest high because receiving a dividend paycheck every month is always cool and they also often carry higher yield (with the downside of a lower dividend growth).
Appart from my monthly dividend payers, I also received dividends from Deere (DE), I’d love to own one of their mini-excavators by the way, and from Jean-Coutu (pjc-a.to), the first stock I ever bought in my life!
During the month of may 2015, I received a total of 62,60$ CAN. Not a lot but every dollars count! These dividends are adding up in my brokerage account until I’ll have enough money to buy shares in a new company at a good price!
Wow! It’s been my best month ever! The magic of compounding does not only apply to interests and savings. It can also applies to everything you do including building sources of “passive income” through online intellectual properties.
Over the last 6-7 months, I spent a lot of time learning about niche sites and making money online. I also tried my hand with one site and made several rookie mistakes like taking a subject that is only generating traffic during a specific period of the year. Well this period was may!
With only one site and ads alone, I’ve been able to generate 126,22$ CAN without doing anything at all. This site ranks for at least 30 longtail keywords on page 1. Most of these keywords carry very low traffic but all of this ads up and I also rank for keywords I didn’t plan.
When you’re able to rank on page 1 and even best, in the top 3 results, you get A LOT of traffic!
Now, if I combine all the income from all the sources and all of my sites, I made a total of 171,48$ with ads and 49,78$ US and 5,49$ for being an affiliate.
Assuming that US money is equal to Canadian money to be conservative, I made a total of 226,75$ online.
Let’s add this up to my dividend income and we get 289,35$! It’s a car payment… the payment of a small car but wow. I’m impressed!
I don’t have a lot of time to spend on my online mini-business right now as we’re in a rush at my job and I’m also doing a lot of renovations to my house. I want it clean, renovated and fully paid by 2020! I still have a lot of work to do on it but things are getting better every month.
How was the month of may for you?
