I do not think that there is any other quality so essential to success of any kind as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes anything, even nature. – John D Rockefeller
I’ll dedicate this quote to an inspiring fellow dividend growth investor. I could even say that even if he never really gave me a direct advice, he’s been and is still a mentor and an inspiration to me.
Last year at approximately the same date, Jason from Dividend Mantra simply quit his day job to live his dream. He achieved a lot since then and even wrote a book.
We have a lot more control over our life than most of us think.
I have a dream. I can picture myself living on my own with no debts, free from the chains of a 9@5 job, dedicating myself and my time to what I love and to the people I love. I can picture my future self living by the sea a couple of weeks or months per year with my wife and two kids. I see myself living off my dividend income and online passive income and also getting income from my many ventures that I will have built over the years.
This is a dream that is so powerful that even when I feel down or even when I feel that it won’t be possible that I will never get there and that it’s taking too long, I still can tell myself “you’ll reach it buddy”! And somewhere inside of me, I know I will.
Every month my situation is getting better and I’m getting a step closer to my dream. My mortgage is going down, my personal debts are going down. My passive income and freedom fund are going up.
Perseverance. That’s all it takes to change your life for the better. There are no magic recipe to get financially free. You simply need to spend less, save more, invest wisely and be perseverant. It’s going to take some time but the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at the time!

Allan,
I always love the use of Rockefeller quotes; he’s my all-time favourite capitalist.
Have you read “Titan”? It’s an amazing read that I highly recommend if you’re interested in the incredible life and personality of John D..
There’s no doubt you need some thick skin and a vision for the future in order to last as a dividend growth investor. The perseverance is akin to Andy in “Shawshank Redemption” managing to chisel through the prison wall piece by piece. We have it easier, though, since we have compounding on our side!

Hi Ryan, nope… never read that book. I’ll have to add it to my list.
Shawshank redemption… wow! One of the best movie I’ve seen. My brother kept listening to it again and again when he was a kid. I never understood why actually… lol
Perseverance is really something that people lack nowadays. When I explain to people that 10,000$ invested will yield 350$ during the first year they usually stop listening and tell me I’ll never get there. But the magic is in the dividend growth, the dividend reinvestment and the compounding interest effect.
Being part of this community of online dividend growth investors sure help. It motivates me to stay focused.
