The only real security that a man can have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, ability and experience. – Henry Ford
Yesterday I had an interesting comment from Bodhi from SmartExperiments.com, another guy like us seeking to free himself from the chains of a 9@5 job for corporate America and he gave me the idea to restart something I had started a while ago but stopped doing : share quotes from rich men.
Here’s an inspirational quote from a rich man, Henry Ford. As you might know if you follow my blog a little. I went through a restructuring at my job and lost my position and have been transferred to another department. My career was going pretty well, I was almost at the top of the ladder in my department and was mentored by my bosses to replace them when they would retire. I now have to start over at the bottom of the ladder in another department and it’s a job I don’t enjoy doing for now.
This will lead me somewhere else in my life and career and it has forced me to realize than it is not possible to control 100% of what’s going to happen in our life and career even as much as we try.
I thought that this quote was true. Whatever security someone is going to try to sell you, your only security is your ability to learn and keep learning and your ability to see and seize opportunities and to use your knowledge and competencies efficiently.
Thank you Mr Ford for that great quote.

It is absolutely correct that we cannot control our future or career if we are still working with someone.
In my company, those people that are not the competent and less qualification are get promoted.

Totally agree. Getting promoted is often more about who you know than what you know. But there are also other qualities that are required. I hope to be able to free myself from being an employee as soon as possible. But I have to admit that I’m a poor businessman… Making money is no easy task for me and bills are not a motivation for me to make money. There are pure stress. I’ve been self employed in my life for a while and I just couldn’t handle the bills. They were coming in like a well timed clock while the income was not guaranteed at all. When I’ll be done with my debts (mortgage) and I’ll have a security net (dividend income)I guess I’ll feel more secure since I won’t owe money to anyone.
In fact, if I can somehow reach early retirement and financial freedom and quit my day job one day, I think everybody can because I’m seriously the worse businessman ever! 🙂
