Of course in this challenging economy almost everybody would need help paying bills!
Some months, it’s very difficult to make ends meet and I can definitely understand that. I now have a good financial situation but it had not always been that way…
But don’t worry, there are solutions.
I need help paying bills right now
Okay, I know! It’s urgent. Bills are piling up and you need help right away to pay them.
1. Get a payday loan
While not the best solution out there for the long-term, it can be used as a quick fix for this week if you have a job.
2. Return past purchase
Some stores like Wal Mart have very open-minded policies about returning past purchase. Maybe it’s time to look around and return stuff that you recently bought and get your money back.
3. Sell your gold
Earings, bracelets, watches or pendants… We all have some gold lying around. Raid your house to find your gold and exchange it for cold hard cash right now!

6. Tap into your life insurance
You probably bought a life insurance back in the days. We almost all have one. Advisors used to sell permanent life insurance contracts in the ’80s or ’90s so chances are you have one. If it’s the case, then you might be able to get some money out of it! Check with your advisor and see if this suits you.
7. Are you ahead on your mortgage?
Maybe during better times you made extra payments on your mortgage? If it’s the case you might be able to postpone your next payment or even skip it. It could give you a break! Also, most financial institutions allow people to skip one payment per year. Warning!!! You have to verify with them and ask their permission first if you don’t want to get a notice of seizure.
8. Raid your IRA
While not the best solution for long-term financial freedom, it could be possible in some situations to raid part of your IRA. Consult with a registered advisor.
9. Return soda and beer bottles
Hey! I know! You won’t get rich with that but when we need help to pay bills, every dollar counts!
10. Sell your old mobile phone
Chances are you recently had a new phone when you renewed your contract. Where’s your old phone? Did you know you could sell it? Take a look at this website and you might be able to get some bucks out of this unused phone.
11. Sell unused gift cards
Your grandma gave you a gift card for a store you don’t like? Chances are that the card is hidden somewhere in your wallet or purse and that you forgot it. Just sell it! Cardpool and cardcash are two interesting websites that could help you pay your bills this month.
12. Sell your hair
Seriously! You could get a couple hundreds out of your hair if they are at least 16-18 inches long and “virgin”. Here is a specialized website dedicated to selling hair.
13. Sell your plasma
This could help save a life… and help you pay your bills! Why not kill two birds with one stone? Here’s a list of 482 places in the US.
14. Cut the land line
Why do you still need a land line now that you have a Iphone??? Call your provider and cut the damn landline! You might also take this opportunity to review you cable and internet memberships. Do you really need all those extra channels? And is the super incredibly high speed you’re paying for your access to internet is really worth it?
I’m sure you can go get at least 20$ per month here and this is a saving that will repeat every month forever!
15. Review your insurance coverage
Insurers are the best to charge you too much for “peace of mind”. Do you still insure the damage that could be done to your 12 years old car worth less than 2000$? Maybe it’s time to drop some protection here… You could easily cut your insurance cost by 40%-50% by dropping some unnecessary protections and by shopping around.
You can do the same for your house insurance, trip insurance, life insurance and so on…
You might even have double insurance protection. Make some clean-up in there and you might find yourself saving a lot.
16. Sell your breast milk or sperm
Okay… I know this is not for everyone but… again, it could help someone out there and help you pay your bills… Just be respectful of your limits and also make sure that it is legal in your state.
17. Sign up for medical tests
You could make more than a 1000$ pretty fast with that one. pharmaceutical companies and universities are often in search of people to test new or existing medications. Some studies are less invasive. Just shop around and check what suits you.
18. Make a debt consolidation loan
If your credit is acceptable, you might qualify for a consolidation loan. You could regroup all your credit card and loans into one single loan with a lower interest rate and maybe a longer amortization. This could help you breathe better!
19. Engage in a debt settlement or file bankruptcy
If your situation is getting worse, sometimes, the best thing to do to either negotiate with your creditors for a debt reduction plan or declare bankcruptcy. Get some guidance with a professional here.
20. Need help paying the electric bill?
The first thing to do here is to call the company and try to arrange something with them. You are not the first one! They are used to it.
If they don’t want to do anything for you then you might qualify for governmental help. Verify with your local agency (LIHEAP).
21. Need help paying the rent?
Talk to your landlord and try to negotiate an arrangement or a lower rent. You could also consider taking a roommate.
If this doesn’t make it, you might qualify for a charitable grant or even be eligible for government assistance.
One of my fellow blogger has a great post about it. You can find it here.
22. Get a sideline job
Once this bad period will be settled, start building for the future! Get a side hustle or start a small business as a side income and grow it into a full time business! Start spending less than you earn, save the difference and invest it wisely to get extra passive income!
